“I thought you were nicer”

29 May

I’m in the process of sorting through some of the old “Hand aufs Herz” episodes I still have on my HDR (and cannot bring myself to delete) and just watched episode 98 again.

Here’s a thought that I’ve had before but that we haven’t discussed here so far: They both say “I thought you were nicer” in this episode – could this be the key why Jenny is overreacting when she thinks that Emma wrote the wrong presentation on purpose, and why Emma acts so cold and unforgivingly when Jenny tries to talk to her at the vending machine? Because they both really liked each other from the beginning, and then everything started to go wrong and they were both very disappointed in each other?

What do you think?

    Hallo! You are back!
I love this kind of questions and discussing old episodes….(but, please, don’t delete them!!!)..
I think that Emma, the first time they see each others, find Jenny cool and nice. That’s the reason she asked her to join the AG.
And I think that Jenny thought that Emma was gentle. and…harmless
So that’s what I think. At the very beginning (first meet) I think that they like each other but it is not love.

I think that at the beginning Jenny was so busy to find a place at Pestalozzi, start again a new life, get used to Ben and Stefan and her life in Cologne. She was searching for the “cool” people from whom she could keep some advantage for her school life (see Caro and math’s test)
But, hey, she thinks that little Muller is not that innocent….and she thinks that Emma wanted to play a trick on her. So: Jenny took her revenge. And makes Emma angry.
Jenny “has” to take her revenge ’cause she needs to demontrate to all the school that you can fool Jenny Hartmann without consequences. It is a matter of surviving…

Later, when Jenny got Emma fired from SAAL 1, then I can say that she already had feelings for Emma (the car scene) and so she was very very bitchy with her.

Yeah Kykky, I agree with your comment.

IMO, Emma think Jenny is nicer; cause she choose to sit nexy with her the first day in class. I think little Emma always think people are look down on her, even herself has no confidence, she would never think a beauty and cool girl form London would ever consider to sit next to her. That’s the first thing she thinks Jenny is nicer.

Then when she invite her to join the STAG, Jenny didn’t reject and still smiling to her for the second and third time Emma keep asking. And Jenny tried to talk to Emma when she saw her in the cafeteria area after she watched the STAG’s rehearsal even she can’t remember her name.

But then after the shinging campaign, get Emma fired from the SAAL1 and the car accident, Emma think the opposite of Jenny.

Jenny think Emma was nicer, cause Emma is gentle, always smile, telling her about the teacher; and the first one ask her to join the AG in the school.

And Kykky is right, Jenny also think Emma is harmless but on the other hand too plain, nothing Jenny would consider as cool that she wants to hang around. But after she met Caro and hearing all her “problem” and criticized of the STAG, she starts to think Emma is nicer (think about how she talked with Ben about Emma and Caro in ep. 75).

Then with the project thing with Emma, I believe it brought back some of her past experience in London that she think Emma is not that innocent as she thought at the beginning.

Very interesting observation, Mel! And totally agree with you girls, because basically the first impression of each other by either Jenny and Emma is good, but comes up another question : Why Jenny ask Emma to do her report, meanwhile I am 100% sure Jenny knew that it is Hotte who like her, and it is Hotte who wants to do the seance … Care to discuss? ;)

I think that Jenny only wanted to have the essay done. No matter from who. And is is clear that she has understood that Hotte feels something for her…and she is ready to exploit this situation… Jenny v. 1.0! :) )
How much she has changed… :)

She tricked Emma into doing the report, in exchange for her part in the seance. As far as Hotte, remember, Jenny was pretty selfish for most of the beginning. She didn’t really give a thought to Hotte and his feelings until episode 114. Until then, he was a means to an end, an attempt to get Emma jealous so she’d recognize her feelings.
I agree with much of Mel. They liked each other in the beginning, then it was just one misunderstanding after another. I think each realized they’d gone too far by ep 100, and took a breath to try and get back on track somewhat (102), the ep where Jenny begins to realize she has feelings for Emma. But then, she had to go and screw it up again in 104. I would say Jenny didn’t stop being a selfish _______ until 113-114 when she realized Emma didn’t trust her because of her behavior to then.
